Last day at work!

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Today is my last day at work! For the immediate future - at least 2 years - I can say goodbye to the 9-5 routine, the meaningless meetings, the daily grind of office life. But I also have to say goodbye to the company of colleagues, being in touch with the wider working world, and my monthly salary…What shall I do now?

Well, the question is what to do in the next 5 months. Because by September, I’ll be on 24 hour duty, 7 days a week, busier than I have ever been before. It is almost impossible to imagine, because I am so used to having free time for myself

Alot is happening in the next 5 months anyway, will be relocating, travelling, buying baby stuff, even some freelance work. So I better make the most of it before the next phase starts…

I am in nervous trepidation! What an “adventure” coming up

Halloween of a work day

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

whoa, just saw a 5 minute segment on the news about our company’s retrenchment. It didn’t look good.

what a traumatic day it was today. department by department were called in and came out with their letters. by 12pm, we were saying tearful goodbyes to colleagues while hiding from the news camera which was staking out the lobby.

From my unit, 2 of us didn’t get the letter (yes i still have to go to work tomorrow). lucky or not i don’t know because we have to clean up the mess… we hear that there will be another round coming up. i think that’ll be me, cos once i wrap things up, i don’t know what else they want me to do.

at least now i have a bit of a breather before embarking on what to do next…

The fat lady is about to sing…

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Yes it’s almost over. The boss has been telling some departments to start looking for new jobs and cost cutting measures have begun. 3 offices have already been closed down and we have staff wandering around without desks. The latest on the office grapevine is that 50% of staff will be cut - this Friday. The criteria - last in first out and if your salary is high.

Uh oh!

If I get a letter on Friday (and hopefully get a few months compensation), I will:

- Be a total bum for 2 weeks and just laze at home
- Become even more of a serial blogger than I already am
- Take up that dressmaking course I’ve been wanting to do
- Learn to bake bread
- Watch Oprah every day
- Look for ways to make money without having to work a nine to five
- Failing that - then i suppose i’ll have to find another job…

Sigh… this is the sad ending to a deteriorating situation as a result of bad practises.
What am I to do? Go home and confide my woes to Jacob
